More than two-thirds of people start their online journey with a search engine.
According to a BrightEdge report, organic search is still the dominant source of traffic for websites, accounting for 53% of all trackable traffic in 2019. Consider this is up from 51% in 2014.
Paid search accounts for 27% of traffic, while social media and other channels account for the remaining 15% and 5%, respectively. Adding paid and organic search together, 68% percent of people start their online journey with some form of search.
The study also found that organic search is the most effective channel for driving revenue, generating an average of $3.50 in revenue for every $1 spent on optimization. Paid search is also a profitable channel, generating $2.20 in revenue for every $1 spent.
